The Christian Archaeological
Society (XAE) was founded in 1884 and is one of the oldest scientific
associations in Greece.
Its aim is to promote research and all other scholarly activity
in the sector of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology and Art.
To achieve its aims, the XAE:
– Publishes an annual periodical of international status,
the Deltion of the Christian Archaeological Society (DChAE, Δελτίον
της Χριστιανικής Αρχαιολογικής Εταιρείας) This is the only periodical
devoted exclusively to issues of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology
and Art, published in Greece.
– The XAE also publishes a series of monographs entitled
Τετράδια Βυζαντινής Αρχαιολογίας και Τέχνης (Notebooks of Byzantine
Archaeology and Art).
It organizes an annual spring conference, the Symposium of Byzantine
and Post-Byzantine Archaeology and Art.
– It holds specialist conferences, lectures and other events.
The XAE also deeply interested in the preservation and protection
of the cultural heritage, collaborating with the responsible services
of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and scientific institutions
in Greece and abroad.
